Summer so far

June!

Henry Rollins came to the Yukon Arts Centre.  We went and listened to his 2+ hour monologue - super interesting/appealing dude.  The Association of Canadian Archivists held their annual conference here in Whitehorse which was very cool but resulted in very looooong days for me.  It's a time for angry archivists in Canada as there have been significant grant funding cuts and some really funky things going on at our national archives.  I say funky to just be sort of nice.  Really, I am worried about the leadership and vision of that institution.  At a keynote address we were told that the national archives agrees with making digitization choices in line with government priorities/philospohies and that our profession isn't open to change.  This whole issue probably deserves an entire post but I haven't the time and I don't feel like getting pissed off.  I rode bikes a lot in June with my friend Steph from Ontario.  We even rode around the Wildlife Preserve and played with animal antlers.  The annual Kluane-Chilkat International Bike Relay from Haines Junction, YT to Haines, AK was a cold and miserable affair.  I rode legs 5 & 6 which were new for me and, aside from the rain, wind, cold and fog, I enjoyed myself.  The weather has been total crap so far this summer but occasional days have been punctuated with pretty lupins and, finally today, an iris in my yard.  We finally went on a short canoe trip down the Yukon River and when it wasn't raining the scenery was actually pretty crazy beautiful.  I do love summer in the Yukon I just wish there was more of it to be had this year.  This is what my "Let's Get Physical" costume looked light at this year's 24 Hours of Light mountain bike festival.  The thong was Steph's idea and it did end up being pretty funny.  I've made two trips to Carcross already this summer and rode up the mountain both times.  Maybe someday it won't seem so long and endless.  I love love love the new town sign.  The caribou even has a penis and testicles made out of plumbing parts.  Totally neat.  Ben's parents were here and since it was rainy outside my father-in-law pulled the carpet off our stairs for us.  Awesome.  Am considering painting them party colours - I will share the photo in another post - but I am also nervous about painting over the wood.  I already mentioned that our irises bloomed today - and that sums up June in a long run on paragraph.  What can I say? I've been busy.  Manic season.

Oooo, Henry Rollins! I bet that was great. I'm so sorry to hear about the annoying work-related stuff. We've been having a ridiculously hot summer here already. I'd gladly send some of the heat your way!
