Happy end of Dressember!  I think I am a little bit in shock that I actually made it.

Today marks the thirty-first day of me wearing the same dress. It was partly as a personal challenge, mostly as a fundraiser for Right To Play. You people AMAZE me - at the end of all this nonsense we have raised over $800 for a really great charity. In case you need a little extra encouragement to make a donation before January 2nd (the day my fundraising effort ends) here is what RTP does and why I think they deserve our support.

Right To Play's mission is to use sport and play to empower children and youth.  In their own words "play is NOT a luxury; it is a tool for education and health. It can bring entire communities together and inspire every individual. A game of football can teach children about tolerance and peace, and a game of tag can teach about malaria. Play helps teach important life lessons and develop skills like cooperation, leadership, and teamwork."

I want to thank each one of you who donated and I need to send a shout out here to the one donor I do not know personally.  I have no idea how you found this blog but, Adele, thank-you.

Even though I have no big plans for tonight, I tried to make my last outfit the littlest bit spiffy.  That is, if you consider the inside layer of a dress purchased at Value Village to be fancy.

Dressember 30th has kinda snuck up on me.  Only one more day left in 2012?  Woah.

To be honest, this year has been rougher than most.  Nothing super specific - or at least nothing I am going to detail on a blog.  My year really hasn't been that interesting but I certainly experienced some pretty significant lows.  But everyone experiences ups downs in life. I do figure that the deeper the downs, the sweeter the ups will eventually taste.

I must say that a big positive for the end of the year has been this whole Dressember project.  I have been so touched by the generosity of others.  I've never really tried to fund-raise for anything - at least not since the days of grade school chocolate almond door-to-door sales.  Thanks for being so kind, friends.

It has *finally* warmed up.  It was a balmy -9C when this photo was taken.  It was also super windy which I why I am holding the edges of my cape down.

I wore this quite briefly today, out for an excursion to Canadian Tire.  Ben and I are patching and painting around the house this weekend and I have spent much of the day in fleece pants and a sweatshirt.  It's not cheating though - remember my dressember rules.  When it would be a hindrance to an activity, I don't have to wear the dress.

I can hardly believe how quickly this month has been passing.  I'm keen to stop wearing this same dress in three days but I would do it all over in the month of January if I knew I could raise the same amount of money for Right To Play.  You, dear readers and friends, have been so generous to my cause this year.  Thanks again so much.  It really means a lot to me.

Oh man, two and a half extra days off work this week and somehow I feel extra tired.  It makes no sense but perhaps I can blame it on all the awesome food I have been consuming over the past four days.

Dressember the 25th began with a beautiful sunrise.  We had friends over for brunch.

Then we went for a ski.  It was frosty at -22C but it felt not too bad given the very cold weather we have had for most of December.

And now we are heading out for dinner at yet another friend's home.  I love having friends who like to cook and who like to invite me over.  Two minutes after I put these tights on I stuck my thumb through them creating a large hole.  Doh!

Happy Solstice!  Today in Whitehorse we experienced 5 hours and 371/2 minutes between sunrise and sunset. We also saw a daytime high temperature of -27C.  The dark days and cold temperatures have nothing to do with staff at the Archives feeling a bit kooky at this time of year....

Better light over the lunch hour to show you the kinda cool details of my skape (part skirt, part cape). I've had this for a few years but I love it.  It's reversible and is printed on one side with leaves and a periodic table and the other with airplanes.  If you're curious, there's a better shot of the print on my flickr site.

I have to admit, I am starting to see the backside of these 31 days.  Looking at the fact that today is day #20 makes me happy.  I can do this! Only a few more work days and a lot of festivity in between.  Go dressember!

My boss today was adamant that I was not really wearing a dress due to the pants I have on underneath.  I was equally adamant in rejecting his opinion.  How do the rest of you feel about pants under dresses?  Is it cheating?  

So my co-dressember participant and I are looking for ways to liven up our portraits at work. Keep in mind that it is bloody cold out (another day below -30C) and we have to be quick with these shots.  Today we went for a "Dressember emergency" but I am open to portrait suggestions.

I've said it before but I want to say again that you, my readers and friends, have made amazing contributions to Right To Play on my behalf.  It seriously warms my heart and I thank ALL of you for your donations.  I really believe that they do cool things.  I have a pretty frozen heart this time of year but looking at their website melts it just a little.  Thanks again.

The weather has returned to a deep freeze.  It was -34C when Brenda and I took this photo at work today. We call it Yukon Gothic.

Today was mostly about bikes.  First, we rode them.

Trails were a bit soft but unless you got pushed off your bike by your friends, most stuff was ride-able.

When I got home it was desperation Dressember time.  EEK! Only 2 more hours of light and I had not yet put my dress on!!  So that's what I did.  I just put it on over top of my riding base layers.  Pretty fancy stuff today.

As I said at the beginning of this post, today was mostly about bikes.  After our ride, a group of us got together for dinner and to plan a spring bike trip.  We are heading to northern California for a bikecation at the end of April.  This important discussion necessitated appropriate outfits for everyone.  The animals on bikes t-shirts came out.

Happy Friday!

See that blue thing in the snow behind me?  It's a dog toy.  I found a dog running loose on the Alaska Highway today.  I managed to get her in my car and bring her back to our place so that we could contact her owner.  While she was in our yard she played with some of Mingus' toys.  Anyhow, the super cool part of this story is that as a thank-you, the dog's owner donated to Right To Play - isn't that awesome?!

Can I just say that you folks are amazing?  Thirteen days into this silliness and you have helped me not only meet my fundraising goal for Right To Play but also exceed it.  Tonight as I sit down to write my Dressember post I am so thrilled to say that together we have raised $500 for an organization that does really powerful things with kids and sport.  Improving self-esteem, developing an ability to resist peer-pressure, learning to resolve conflict peacefully and to problem-solve: these are all things that Right To Play's programs help make happen.  Thank-you, thank-you from the bottom of my frozen winter heart for your donations and your comments here.

It's been a busy week for me and I am feeling the soul crushing darkness of the shortest month of the year. Thankfully, it has been considerably warmer out this week. Even Mingus is now willing to spend a bit of time outside rather than just rushing outside and back in again when nature calls.

Some colleagues said that today's Dressember outfit was cheating because I belted and shortened the dress. Naturally, I disagree.  I am still wearing the same dress, after all.

But, I made it more dress-like for the double-Dressember photo with Brenda.

The weather finally changed today.  The bitter cold has passed and, as I type, it is a balmy -12C out there. Woke up to a beautiful sunrise this morning too.

The original plan for today was to do some fat bike portraits for a contest I won last month.  But, because the wind chill was still pretty bad and because we had a lot of new snow fall last night, the photo shoot was cancelled.  I had, however, already donned my long underwear in anticipation of the day so rather than get entirely redressed, I just threw my dress on overtop.  This is the advantage of weekends.

So happy it's Friday.  So bummed that it is still -27C.  Environment Canada claims it is going to warm up to -2C on Sunday but I will believe that when I see it.

So I have managed the first seven days of the Dressember challenge - yay me!  If you have been watching my donations page you will see that I have upped my goal from trying to raise $250 to $400.  I have come really close to $250 this first week and so I thought I could try and be successful with a slightly higher number.  You, my awesome friends, have made this possible.  Again, thank-you.

It is still cold.  Another day at -30C today.

I rode to work though and since it wasn't windy and I was overdressed, it actually wasn't that bad.  I changed into my dress once the sun came up at work and then I popped outside to take this:

At lunchtime Brenda and I went out for our dressember photo shoot.  The light was still beautiful.  We decided we wanted to up the entertainment factor of our portraits.  This is our failed jump shot.  Please note the claw.  I do this with my hands in practically every jump shot I attempt.  Flattering.  I offer it here for your amusement.

Shoes - Clark's. Meant to wear boots today but they were a casualty of the bike ride to work (as in, I didn't bring them).

As several of you have asked about the laundering of my dress or whether I wear deodorant, here's the deal. I think we wash our clothes way too often.  So I figured the plan would be that I will wash the dress every Friday night.  And yes, it is the same item of clothing that I am wearing each day, not just the same dress purchased in multiples.  And ya, I'm sporting underarm charm and I make sure that I don't sweat in the dress (ie: I did not bike into work while wearing it).  I also have usually been wearing a wool tshirt underneath so I think that helps.  That said..... it will be time for a bit of soap and water for this polyester baby tomorrow night.  Don't judge me.

Also, my friend Sierra reminded me tonight that I had originally planned to wear the same dress but to let blog readers accessorize it for me through their donations (ie: donate x dollars and you can tell me what to wear tomorrow).  I'm going to try and rig something up this weekend so if that sounds fun to you, stay tuned.
